The ABC’s

Happy Independence Day! Since it’s a government holiday and there’s no mail or trash pick up, I figured that blogging would be on the light side today. Well, there won’t be much traffic on the roads so would it be much different on the Internets? Oh, the Internet Super Highway is different than the Interstate Super Highway? Too bad, I made the decision to steal Karl’s A - Z theme for this glorious holiday full of picnic’s, fireworks and memes. Without further ado I give you The ABC’s of Me: A

iRobot MicroRig oil robot may be resurrected, new Industrial division considered

iRobot is considering adding an Industrial Division and resurrecting its MicroRig robot codeveloped with Halliburton for oil wells, iRobot CEO Colin Angle and Chairwoman Helen Greiner told Bloomberg. Other companies are already developing robots for oil exploration, particularly for deep sea wells. While the article quotes a skeptical analyst due to the long lead times for development, I think a well-executed pitch to the big oil majors on partnerships could lead to significant investment. A fe

Rest of the Wallet Story…

Since I prewrite my blog entries, I didn’t have the rest of the lost wallet story until now. When the sheriff called Tuesday afternoon, he asked Jeff for his cell number and said he’d call when they got back to the sheriff substation. Well, it was getting late and no phone call. Jeff started second-guessing the phone call. What if it really wasn’t a sheriff but some elaborate scheme? He said that he could hear what sounded like a police radio in the background of the call. I told him he was

A list of things that bring enjoyement to my life

If you are expecting some deep, meaning-of-life list, you would be so wrong! First off, the Roomba. LOVE it! sure, I gotta empty the cannister after every room, and if I only run it after 3 days instead of 2, I might need to empty the cannister halfway through the room…. But the dog hair! and the sand! It’s all gone! At first, I was letting it meander through the whole downstairs, but I’ve found that if I set up the virtual wall and make it to one room at a time, it’s much much more efficient

Will Smith’s Offbeat ‘Hancock’

From ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Men in Black’ to ‘I, Robot’ and more, the July 4th holiday weekend has long been Will Smith’s box office domain, and the A-list superstar is back in fine form with ‘Hancock,’ in theaters today! “He’s kind of an anti-superhero; very different from the superheroes that we grew up with,” Will tells “The Insider” about his offbeat, alcohol swilling, grouchy good guy. In ‘Hancock,’ Will plays a cranky, disillusioned superhero who is pretty much a lost cause. When he pushe

What will tech look like 10 years from now?

Ah Tom Cruise, taking on the role of Chief John Anderton as Pre-Crime officer in Washintong D.C.’s police department in the year 2054. Pre-Crime is a division which occupies itself with stopping murders before they ever occured by having an insight on 36 hours into the future. I highly doubt we’ll be able to do that 10, or even 20 years from now. But what is interesting and more within our reach is the interface Tom Cruise is using in the scene above. A see through touch screen interface on

Caption contest: Chinese S.W.A.T. team caught ridin’ dirty… on Segways

Filed under: Transportation Look, protecting the world from the terror of Jihadists is serious business — which is why we’re not sure that rolling up on a Segway is the best way to get the Axis of Evil to drop its weapon / bomb / fanatic mindset… still, Jackie Chan will be psyched. Our suggestion? the electric unicycle. Josh T: “Stop! Step out of the vehicle and agree to be my friend.” Don: “Don’t make me lean forward and come over there.” Chris: “Do it… do it now! Get to the human tran

ATT Offers iPhone Sans Service Agreement

Has AT&T seen the light? Will it offer what is arguably the hottest gadget around — the iPhone — without a service agreement? Yes. For a nominal service charge. The two new iPhones (8MB and 16MB versions) go on sale next Friday (July 11) for $199 and $299, with two-year AT&T contracts. If you want to purchase an iPhone 3G from AT&T — locked for use on its network only, natch –without a service contract, you can do so for $400 more than the price of an iPhone that’s locked in
