Andrew’s Going To Work Tomorrow To Get Some Rest

Convalescing around a pregnant woman who is nesting is… pointless. She’ll find some way to drag you into her web of frenzied work. Case in point: Andrew had the stomach bug over the weekend. Usually, he gets up too soon and then has a relapse. So he promised me that he would take the day off work today and just sit around and hang with us. A very wise idea. In theory. We took the morning to chill (I don’t do mornings well anyway) and to be reminded by our children why they need parents

The Solar-Powered Robotic Automower

Anyone who has ever spent an afternoon mowing lawns knows the downsides of the job: walking in monotonous straight lines with the filthy emissions of a two-stroke engine in their face, and a subway’s worth of noise to contend with. Enter Husqvarna’s Automower, a solar-powered, zero-emission lawn-Roomba that offers an attractive (albeit pricy) replacement. (more…)

Limited Edition Wall-E Roomba Is Lame

When you think about what a limited edition Wall-E Roomba should be, you probably picture a Roomba with those cute Wall-E eyes attached, Wall-E’s squar-ish body. Maybe add some voice effects. How awesome would it be to have a Wall-E Roomba? Count me in. Turns out, not very awesome at all. It’s being sold in Japan and it amounts to no more then a crappy sticker attached on top. For the price of $850. That’s $550 more then what a standard 530 costs here in the U.S. That’s just lame. [Slipperybr

Limited Edition Wall-E Roomba From Japan Sucks in More Ways Than One [Wall-e Sad]

Limited-edition Wall-E Roomba: that brings to mind a certain image of an already-fairly-cute vacuum bot taking on two puppy dog eyes, an adorable electro-babble voice synth and maybe even an inclination to maintain a little nest of sad artifacts it has horded from your waste in an unseen corner of your giant house. Or at least, um, something that looks like the robot whose actual job was to sweep the floor in the movie? Sadly, this limited edition Wall-E Roomba fails on almost every possible co

Towards Relational Design

The following is extracted from a series of lectures about relational design practices. A related article can be found at DesignObserver.com (coming soon). A seemingly random selection of projects from various design fields with an underlying thread: Rem Koolhaas/OMA, Hermitage Museum expansion plan, St. Petersburg, Russia, c. 2003. An expansion strategy for the Hermitage Museum in Russia simply annexes the surrounding government-owned buildings in St. Petersburg, increasing the available s

iRobot Manufacturing Center to Open in North Charleston

Calm down. Calm down. Here is why we think we might be able to make this bold, awesome, careless prediction. This mystery North Charleston project that will be the biggest commercial development in South Carolina history includes Weber USA as one of its developers. We visited a website for a Weber USA (note: we’re not sure it’s the Weber USA involved in this project) and we clicked on “About Weber” and then the tab that reads “Future”: Well, they said they’d be looking to make 6,000 jobs,

Limited Edition Wall-E Roomba really sucks

When you think about what a limited edition Wall-E Roomba should be, you probably picture a Roomba with those cute Wall-E eyes attached, Wall-E’s squar-ish body. Maybe add some voice effects. How awesome would it be to have a Wall-E Roomba? Turns out, not very awesome at all. It’s being sold in Japan and it amounts to no more then a crappy sticker attached on top. For the price of $850. That’s $550 more then what a standard 530 costs here in the U.S. For shame Roomba. For shame. [Impress]

iRobot Roomba 530 Wall-E Edition

This is outrageous! Wall-E, the mischievous robot who was so smitten by Eva in the movie might have committed digital adultery by agreeing to a cross-promotional marketing exercise that sees iRobot’s Roomba 530 get some Wall-E loving. This special edition Roomba retains everything found on the original 530, although you do get a Wall-E sticker by forking out approximately $50 more. Doesn’t make too much sense economically, but hey, people have been known to fork out more for less. There will o

From one robot to another: Roomba takes on Wall-E

From one robot to another: Roomba takes on Wall-E Tidying the house and genuinely enjoying it is only a pleasurable experience for the downright cerazy (it’s got to be done but that doesn’t mean we have to enjoy it). Getting a robot to do it is a much better option isn’t it? And if it’s more than happy to take over your role as house cleaner, who are we to stand in its way. Unfortunately the Roomba 530 is not on par with Rosie from the Jetsons, but it’s the next best thing in robot cleaning eq
