Some day the robots will look back on this and laugh 25 August 2008 at 6:32 pm by ste What is the creepiest part of that video? Is it the slow, methodical pacing? Is it the child lying on the floor, paralysed? Is it the way her eyes dart left and right at the end, looking for some parental assertion that yes, this is what’s supposed to happen? Or is it knowing that in fifty years time we’ll be cowering in underground bunkers, battery humans spitting out progeny as sacrifice to power our new

Roomba controlled by Wii Balance Board
August 25th, 2008 — blog, irobot
“Ron” Tajima’s Wii Balance Board Roomba looks like a fun way to clean the carpet. The idea is that you surf on the Balance Board, leaning forward or back to steer the robot. The video is a little short on details, but he’s using a laptop to read the bluetooth data from the Balance Board and then send control signals to the Roomba bluetooth adapter. You might recognize Ron from some other Roomba hacks he’s done. A while back, he showed how to control the Roomba with the Wiimote (similar to th

Robot Climbs Tall Buildings and Trees

The creep factor rises (pun intended) again in the world of robotics as Boston Dynamics, the company that brought us the unstoppable BigDog (you can’t even kick the darn thing over), introduces a very effective climbing robot. Sure, sure, we’ve seen climbers before–most notably the City College of New York’s City Climber. But where that robot resembled a modified pool cleaner, RiSE looks more buglike. Using six legs and micro claws (or sticky material, depending on the surface), the robot meth

Control your Roomba with a Wii Balance Board
August 25th, 2008 — blog, irobot
How would you like to control your Roomba with your Wii Fit Balance Board? A Japanese man has managed to turn his Wii Balance Board into a controller for his Roomba with just a few steps. Essentially the man used the Bluetooth capabilities of the balance board to link the Roomba and the balance board. Afterwards he’s able to shift his weight from one side of the board to the other to move the Roomba around the room. While this hack isn’t exactly very functional, it is pretty fun to watch.

baugher: Quick and dirty, like my martini: Behold the value of a political science degree at Georgetown: “I think Joe Biden’s nephew is a douche, ergo, I am irritated by Biden as VP.” You would think someone who also fucks and tells about political figures would have a better insight into the demographic in which she lived her college years. Then again, if anyone has read anything she has written about New York, they would know better. If, at first, your “new” blog doesn’t take off, recycle
