Robotics, startups, agriculture Gregory T. Huang wrote: The future of robotics lies in… arranging potted plants? Surprising, but it just might be true. Tonight at the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge, a small company called Q Robotics, based in Groton, MA, gave its first public presentation on the technology it has been developing for the past year and a half. Founded by iRobot veterans Joe Jones and Paul Sandin, co-inventors of the Roomba vacuuming robot, Q Robotics’ project has been shroude

A Geeky Way To Delegate
July 30th, 2008 — blog, irobot
I’ve been looking for ways to delegate the tasks I’d rather not do… online supermarkets and a “roomba” robot vacuum cleaner are my latest additions to my system and although neither is completely effort free the time involved has dropped considerably. Yay!.

Are cell phones hurting watch sales
July 30th, 2008 — blog, irobot
Awhile back in the last place you would expect someone to ask a question that might intrigue me. I was asked a question that got me to thinking. The woman I was talking to suggested I write about what she had asked. Unfortunately I won’t be heading back to her place of work do to bad customer service. So if I do get some worthwhile replies here I won’t be able to share that with her. But the straightforward question is still a good one. So I’ll ask - are cell phone sales hurting the watch indu

Relationships with robots a reality
July 30th, 2008 — blog, irobot
Relationships with robots a reality Bless those lonely British geeks. Following years and years of being on their lonesome, they’ve decided enough is enough and have created their very own emotional robot, complete with human-like characteristics that like to hug people. Hmmm, iRobot and Chucky spring to mind - even more so when it was revealed the robot is part of a project to create a gang of robots that recognise and respond to basic human emotions (let’s hope they don’t get too emotional

Hi Ho(-ly Hell This Dull) Cherry-O
July 30th, 2008 — blog, irobot
Yesterday I played approximately one hundred and forty games of Hi Ho! Cherry-O with my daughter. So. Many. Cherries. And listen: I say this as an enthusiastic lover of board games. I absolutely love board games: Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Scattergories, chess, checkers, mancala, Scrabble, Monopoly, Clue, you name it. I am competitive and enthusiastic and GAME, especially if the game involves extensive knowledge of presidential trivia or extremely obscure D-list actresses or being able to na

XS Pain in the Butt

I have my reservations when it comes to refurbished items. There is a new word they use now, recertified and they are not talking about preowned BMW’s but electronic products such as computers, vacumn cleaners, coffee makers and much more. My Roomba stopped working properly last week so I returned it to where I purchased it, XS Cargo in the Northeast. Luckily I bought extended warranty for it because there was only 90 days of warranty with a recertified Roomba. The extended warranty cost me $2

Move over Scooba - RC Floor Cleaner
July 30th, 2008 — blog, irobot
Cleaning floors has never been something that I actually enjoy, hence the reason I went and got my self an iRobot Roomba so I could vac the floor with just the push of a button. I could continue my lazyness by getting an iRobot Scooba to wash the kitchen floor, but this RC floor cleaner looks more interesting to me. The guys over at Evil Mad Scientist have created an RC car with a mop attached to the front. It’s a very simple mod that almost anybody could made and could actually make cleaning
