Filed under: Audio/Video They tap into the brain. They roam Antarctica and the Martian landscape. They conduct orchestras. Yes, they even scale cliffs in the Grand Canyon. They are robots. Is this the first wave of a worldwide takeover? Well, no. But these mechanical beings of all shapes, sizes and complex capabilities have captured the attention of tech hounds across the globe and here at Switched headquarters, where we’re happy enough with our Roomba. Are you a monkey? Well, then, today’

Stompernet Affiliate Contest Prizes (Thank You!)
Affiliate contests have become very popular in the last few years, as a way to motivate affiliates to make more sales for the merchant. There is nothing new to the concept, as its been used in offline commission-based sales industries for decades. Online merchants are offering incentives to their top affiliates, from vacations to Rolex watches to laptop computers, just to create a competitive sales drive. And it works. Last week I sent out a note about an affiliate contest that I was involved

Which PKD Story Are We In Today ?
Justine Cooper - Peter The Hood Maker - “It’s not 1692, it’s 2008. Pool Cleaning Robots
In case you havent kept count, we already have to roomba robotic cleaner for the house, the automatic robotic lawn mower and now this. That definitely leaves us to the mercy of robots if there were to be a Terminator like future. Though I seriously wonder what kind of damage could these baby bots inflict. The point however is that we are slowly but surely being taken over by these machines.

who would need a gun that fires 1 million rounds per minute ?
My Question is - How Much does this gun cost ? this is a comment that tells you more about the ammo cost - ” Something just seems dumb here. According to the web site the X700 carries 500 lbs. of cargo. A medium sized sniper rifle bullet weighs 8 gms X 1,000,000 = 8.8 tons. 17,637lbs/500lbs = 35 seconds. Wow! “ I know this is crazy but maybe this is the replacement for the human defense system - and if it is, all I can say is WOW! (is right) “Crowd Control” iRobot Fires Up to a Million Roun

Border Patrol Agent Skynet
Robot + Super Gun = ‘Crowd Control’ What do you do with a robot armed with a million-round-per-minute gun? “Crowd control,” naturally. For several months, Metal Storm, the troubled electronic gun developer, has been working with iRobot — the makers of military machines and cute, semi-autonomous vacuum cleaners — to arm some of their new, 250-pound unmanned ground vehicles. Last week, at a defense trade show, the two firms showed off the results of their joint venture. I posted before about Me

Metal Storm works on iRobot
The iRobot might sound cute, but it is actually a killing machine that is capable of spitting out a million rounds (theoretically) in a single minute - definitely the perfect device for “crowd control”, at least where dictators are concerned. These bullets will be fired electronically - hence the speed, ditching the traditional pins and primer method. As for ammunition, those are stacked instead of reloaded mechanically, making ammunition to be the only moving part in the weapon. It’s 40mm we

"Crowd Control" iRobot Fires Up to a Million Rounds a Minute [Robots]
“Crowd Control” iRobot Fires Up to a Million Rounds a Minute You remember that gun that electronically fires up to a million rounds a minute (theoretically) by Metal Storm? They’re strapping them to iRobot’s X700 to create a serious killing machine with the flexibility of firing anything from explosive rounds to “less-lethal” ones, making it suitable for urban assaults, “border patrol,” “crowd control” or my personal favorite, defense against a zombie apocalypse. [Danger Room]
