Well, lead-acid batteries are supposed to be floated at a lower voltage than the charging voltage. Also that voltage is really supposed to be temp compensated. The problem is the float voltage yields low currents near the end of charge and it could take a very long time to get the last 15% or so of charge into a battery. The Robomower “Winter” Charger is the same as the power supply provided with an RL-500 through RL-850 for battery charging. It gives RL-1000 users to the option to charge while out of the dock and connects to the manual controller cradle. This usually occurs during winter storage, hence the term “winter charger”.
