But this time, instead of going shopping, my husband had an idea. “Check online for recalls,” he told me. I don’t know what gave him the hunch. Maybe it was that time a few years back when our microwave started sparking like crazy and we found out (after several faile

The Minimalist’s Guide to Simple Housework
January 28th, 2008 — blog, robomower
Nature abhors a vacuum. And so do I. - Anne Gibbons It’s a rare person among us who looks forward to cleaning the house. I certainly don’t, but a clean house is something I enjoy perhaps too much. I love a clean, uncluttered house, and I’m not afraid to admit it. So how does a person like me — a clean freak — get the house nice and clean without too much work? I’m sure you know by now that if I can keep things simple, I’m happy. I constantly experiment with ways to simplify my house-cleaning

The future of mowing, part 98
January 28th, 2008 — bigmow, blog
On Monday, there will be freshly mowed rough on the Members Course at St. James Plantation. That may not seem like huge news, but here’s the rub: The mowing will have been done by a robotic mower. And it sounds pretty good, actually. Conrad Broussard, CGCS, director of agronomy at St. James,

Robovie is a creepy stalker robot
January 28th, 2008 — blog, kyodo, lawnbott
Sure, his intended purpose is to help lost or confused shoppers, but if this little creeper comes up behind me and asks if I need any help in a Johnny Number 5 voice, I’m going to need more help than directions can give. And if he does it in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice, I’ll be in a fetal position crying in seconds. The bot is capable of “managing” 1000 square feet of space and uses 16 cameras, 6 laser range finders, and 9 RFID tags to monitor a moving crowd and determine if they are lo

An addition to our household & Cruisin the Sound
January 28th, 2008 — blog, irobot
Yes, we have added someone new to our household. Her name is Roxy and she is a Roomba. Here is a picture of her Of course I had to “borrow” this picture from Roomba’s website because Mum is way behind in her picture taking, again! She does all our vacuuming for us. My Mum is very glad she came to live with us, because she says vacuuming is the thing that wears her out the most. Mum thought I would be scared of Roxy Roomba because I am scared of the old vacuum, but I’m not. I like to follow her
